“FAST LOVE EP Live”

Dir. Jayjay Ugbe

Prod. Rommel Nunez

  • FAST LOVE is the third project by 23-year-old Nigerian artist Black Hibiscus. It is his most personal project to date, exploring the anatomy of a relationship. The project follows a chronological retelling of a love story —developing feelings for a close friend, slowly falling in love and becoming obsessed with that person, exploring sexuality and lust, and eventually reminiscing on the love they shared. Sonically, each song explores a different era and soundscape. MORE THAN FRIENDS is an ode to the 80s with spacious, reverb-infused instruments over an infectious drum pattern. INFATUATION takes a modern approach with 808s and a catchy hook combined with prog-rock elements later in the song. TOGETHER slows things down with jazzy instrumentation and accompanying vocals from rising singer Kateriya. YOU, ME, & HER takes inspiration from 70s soul and psychedelic-rock with the use of effects of that era like ring modulation from a software plugin called Rings of Saturn made by Morbid Electronics (a company Black Hibiscus co-founded). FAST LOVE ends with the eponymous track that combines smooth, soft rock from the 60s with sounds from modern groups like Khruangbin. The track ends with the words “fast love sets slow don’t you know”, asserting that despite the end of a relationship, love endures indefinitely.
